Back From Vacation
As you may have noticed, I’ve not posted for over a week now. There is a very good reason for this. I spent the last week on vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and had zero internet access, so no way to post. That’s a pretty good reason, right? I actually tried to get online to post, but the one wireless network I was picking up on, although it would allow me to connect (unsecured network...smart right?) I was only able to access a few sites online for a matter of about ten minutes, after that I had zero access. The only thing I can figure is that either the wireless router was not configured correctly, or I simply wasn’t close enough to pick up a strong enough signal. Either way, I enjoyed my vacation even though it didn’t last long enough (they never do, do they?). For a complete rundown, continue reading.
I’ve been going to Myrtle Beach now for around 15 years or so. We go every year the first week in July with the same group of people (around 50), and stay at the same condo on the beach. It’s basically the same routine every year, a few of us play golf four out of the seven days, we lounge around at the pool area during the day and go out to eat dinner at night.
Places To Eat
Here are the places we ate dinner this year, with a short review:
- Cagney’s - If you like steak, this is the place to go. Very good prime rib. We visit it every year.
- Boundry House - Not bad, but not great either. The prime rib I had was very good, but other than that, a pretty average restaurant.
- Colman’s Calabash - Normally a favorite, but probably wont go back. Very poor service and food.
- Crab House at Barefoot Landing - Usually a favorite, but wont go back. Way over priced and food was very average.
- Joes Crab Shack at Barefoot Landing - First time eating here. Pretty good food for an affordable price.
- Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville - Average food, but the big draw for this place is the atmosphere. It’s a very fun place to eat.
- Landry’s Seafood at Broadway at the Beach - Very good food (although fairly expensive), probably the best we had all week. The king crab legs are the best I’ve ever had.
Places To Golf
- Meadowlands - Good course for the money. Bermuda greens made it difficult to putt, but overall not bad
- Long Bay - This is a Jack Nicklaus signature course, so you would assume something special. Special it was not and I will never go back. 71 bucks to play and the course was in terrible shape. Fairways were bare in spots, sand bunkers were hard as a rock, and greens were bermuda and very bumpy
- Black Bear - Good course, but very average layout. Every hole was pretty straight forward without any really exciting holes. Bermuda greens again made putting difficult.
- Pete Dye Course at Barefoot Landing - This was by far the best course we played all week and definitely the most difficult. This course had waste bunkers, pot bunkers, mounds, and and hills everywhere on the course. Carts were equipped with GPS systems. The course was in pristine shape with bent grass greens. Well worth the $95 price tag.
Well, that’s a rundown of my vacation. I hope to start posting on a regular basis now that I’m back.
