Busy Week, New Host, and Icons

It’s been a very busy week and I’m finally getting Random Jabber back online. Random Jabber was down much longer than I anticipated with the host change. I ran into a couple small issues with my admin control panel and the instant validation on my contact form, but I got it squared away and we’re back in business. Thanks everyone for being patient and sticking around.

Anyway, here’s a brief list of how my week has went and why I’ve been away (I’ll keep it short as I’m sure no one cares much.) cheese

1. Change to my new host, EngineHosting. So far I’m very pleased with the hosting and support I’ve received in moving my site over. If anyone notices any weirdness, please let me know.

2. With the help of my father-in-law, we were able to successfully lay a new hardwood floor in our living room (pictures added to flickr stream in the footer) and finally get rid of the old carpet that used to lay there. It was a long and tedious process, but I am (and more importantly my wife) very pleased with the result.

3. We recently got a new puppy named Samara (Sam for short). It’s a mix between a shih tzu and poodle, i.e., shihtzapoo. I’ve uploaded a photo of her in my flickr stream.

4. I’m still planning on releasing my own icon set, which I’m going to call “sizcons.” smile I probably have 20 or so designed and still have about 10 more before I release them. Please stand by.

I hope you enjoy EngineHosting. I really think they are a great little company, and very willing to share their knowledge. I’ve used advice from Nevin to help streamline some client servers and more. They’re a good group and offer great service.

Still here!

Congrats on the switch, new floor, and new dog!
I must say, Sammy is quite adorable…

A piece of advice… Use affiliate links - because money is always good…
See if your new host has an affiliate program.  I also noticed that you reccomend some books - use the Amazon affiliate program.
Hm… looking around I see that you do have some affiliates… *shrugs* oh well.  I guess my advice wasn’t needed.

But I do have one complaint with the new host - I lost my top spot in the Comment Leaders.  tongue laugh j/k

Keep up the great blogging!

Alnisa: Yeah, I hope I enjoy them too. So far, they’ve been great. That’s what I love about the EllisLab crew. They all are very nice and always willing to go above and beyond even when it’s out of what they’re there for.

Brian: Yeah, already have couple affiliate links around the site. Although, they don’t bring in any income.

As far as your complaint goes, I’m afraid that’s by design and not a fault of the new host. smile Every month the comment leaders are reset because at the end of each month, I’ll be posting the top commentators for that month. So, I guess you just need to work extra hard and get back up to the top stop! Oh wait....looks like you’re already there. tongue laugh

I haven’t dropped by in a while, but everything looks great! I know what you mean by being busy. I just moved back to school and getting my apartment ready and everything else set up has been such a hassle. I’m almost done though!

Gregg: Well, thanks for dropping back by. Is this your first apartment? I assume maybe you’re moving into it from a dorm? If your school is anything like where I went to school, moving out the dorm is huge! You’ve got so much more freedom to do whatever you want.

Deron,
I just came to your blog through your comment on Blogtrepreneur. You have some good stuff here. I’m interested to see your icons.

Steven: Thanks a lot for stopping by. Always good to see new names around here. Glad you like what you see. Hopefully I can continue bringing useful information to everyone. smile

I’m planning on finishing my icon set this weekend. I’ll be without internet connectivity all weekend so I cannot get distracted by other blogs, forums, etc., and I can finally get them finished. Hopefully I’ll have them released Monday or Tuesday.

You’ve got a very nice looking blog also. I don’t have time to look around right now, but at first glance, very nicely put together and I see a lot of article titles that catch my eye. I’ll be back to read them. Anyone with as many RSS subscribers at you, you’ve definitely done something right. Congrats.

Deron,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I would probably get a lot done if I lost connection to the internet too.
