Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me Before Reading This
Wow! Since I’ve started blogging, time really seems to fly by! If I didn’t know better, I would say it’s only been a couple days since my last post, but I look at the dates and see that it’s actually coming up on 10 days. Sorry for the break in posts! I’ll blame it on holiday travel.
Anyway, it seems that if you blog for long enough, you end up doing one of these “Things you didn’t know about me” posts. I’ve been real busy lately working on another site, so I’ve not had much time to really put together a good article, although I do have lots of ideas. I just need time!
I thought I’d put together a quick fun post, so without further ado, here are five things you didn’t know about me before reading this.
The List
- I was a four sport athlete in high school; basketball, golf, track, and cross country. My senior year I was all league in all four sports, all district in three, all region in one and all state in one. I was all state in Ohio for the 400 meter dash. Finished 12th at the state meet.
- I’m a scratch golfer. I’ve been playing the crazy game for nearly 20 years. My lowest round to date is a two under par 70.
- I have a cat named Puss and a dog named Sammie.
- I have a few favorite songs; “Far Behind” by Candlebox, “She Talks to Angels” by The Black Crowes, and “The Dance” by Garth Brooks. I’m not sure which one is my most favorite.
- After I graduated college I had a heck of a time finding a job doing something that I liked and was related to my major in school (Computer Information Systems). So, after graduation, I started working for T-Mobile as a sales representative. I worked there for three and a half years while applying for (and failing to find) other jobs. Looking back, even though dealing with the public on a daily basis is the pits, I did learn a lot from the experience. When I started, I was somewhat of an introvert in that I didn’t like public speaking and wasn’t comfortable holding a long conversation with someone in person. After a short time of having no choice but to interact to make my sales goals, I really leaned a lot about how to communicate effectively with all types of people. I guess the lesson learned there is that no matter how bad the situation is, if you look hard enough, you can find something positive to take away from it.
Well, that’s it for now. I hope you enjoyed reading more useless information about me.

Brian: Yeah, I ran the 800 my freshman through junior years and really didn’t like it as much as the 400, so my senior year I dropped the 800 and only ran the 400. For not being serious about it, 56 isn’t to shabby.
It was my goal to break 50 but I never got there. 50.8 was my best and that was to qualify for state.
Hated cross country too, but did it for similar reasons. If I ran cross country I was in great shape for basketball season.
Wow, lots of animals. I’ve never heard of a ferrel barn cat. Our cat is a barn cat too, but I’m not sure if it’s “ferrel” or not.
Looking forward to you “things you didn’t know about me” post.

I like these posts because they give you an inside peek into people. Here is one I wrote almost a year ago:

Wow, I now feel really un-athletic! Lol. Does jockeying pixels count as a sport? No? Okay I’ll just find a spot on the bench then…
No but it’s interesting to know these things. I bet every blog-writer who reads this will think “Hey, I should make a similar post.” It’s fun to keep it personal like that.
Funny about your talking about ferrel cats. I know what this word means (untamed/homeless) because my middle name is Ferrell from my great grandfather. I was none too pleased to know my middle name’s implied meaning when I grew up. I did play baseball for 7 years or so and that was my nickname (Ferrell). Kind of a crappy nickname if you ask me.

That’s a great idea. I’m blowed away by the fact that you played four sports, and were all league in all of them. I never had a chance to play sports in high school, as I was hoe schooled. Great post.

“ferrel” means it was once ‘wild’
it’s a rescue cat.

Scratch golfer? Are you kidding?
Who’s Mike Pedersen? Bring on Deron!

Sara: Yeah I like them too for the same reasons as you.
BTW: Went to check out your post and left a comment. It seems that Akismet is working overtime again. It ate my comment.
Deaf Musician: Yep, you should. Let me know if you do. I’d love to read it.
Sam: Ahh, so that’s what ferrel means! I could have looked it up but I just knew someone would tell me.
So, did your parents just tell you that you got your middle name from your grandmother or did they just assume you would grow up to be “untamed” and the grandmother bit was just a story to told you?
(just kidding). I’m sure you weren’t named because they thought you would be homeless and untame.
Ninja: Yeah, it was fun then, but I ended up behind a computer and not in the NBA or PGA Tour.
Oh well.
Armen: Nope, not kidding. I’ve never kept and official handicap, but for all intents and purposes I’m scratch.
I’ve heard Nate Whitehill talking about Mike having a great golf game! I’d love to play around with him though. You’re invited too! Here are some videos I took a couple months ago during a golf lesson: Golf Swing Videos

I think making it scratch at Golf is one of the hardest achievements in amateur sports. I love them Golf videos. Any more?

Setanta: Yeah, it’s been a very long road. That’s the only thing about golf that makes it so hard. You work so long to achieve a goal and if you do not continue to work as hard or harder you will not improve, but actually get worse. Golf isn’t a game that you can stop playing for a year and come back out and expect to be as good as when you stopped playing.
No, I don’t have anymore golf videos right now, but I’m hoping to get fitted for a new driver as soon as it warms up a bit here, so maybe I’ll see if I can get the fitting process on video.
Thanks for stopping by.

My name is Deron Sizemore and I am a web designer, web publisher, blogger and serial internet entrepreneur living in Lexington, Kentucky.

Very nice post.
I like it.
In fact, I shall probably do one in the future.
Congrats on those sports…
I run track actually. I’m not extremely serious… but I run the 400 and the 800. Not sure which is my favorite… if I guess if had to choose, I’d pick the 400. But like I said, I’m not a die hard. My fastest was a 56 somethin. I may end up running agin this upcoming season - we’ll see.
I did run Cross Country for two seasons… not my favorite - but helped condition me.
I’ve only played golf once, but I enjoy basketball. I play pickup weekly with some guys from work. It’s fun.
Hm…
I prefer a different style of music…
Christian rock… (no, it’s not an oxymoron)
I have a slew of animals running around our house…
We have two dogs, Schatzi (golden retriever) and Tia (she’s my sister’s and she’s a german shepherd mix). We also have a ferrel barn cat, Chelsea. And finally, my sister has two horses - Pistol and Bree. I don’t know what kind they are… I don’t ride them.
...
So there you have it - some stuff you didn’t know about me…
