From Bookmarker to Obsessive RSSer

Up until about six months ago, I was a bookmarker. When I came across a site that I liked, I would bookmark it, and check it every other day or so for updates. That’s until I discovered the power of Really Simple Syndication (RSS).
So, What is RSS?
For those you out there who are like I was six months ago and still don’t fully understand RSS, it basically provides an easy way to receive updates from your favorite websites without actually visiting those sites. The only thing you will need is a feed aggregator to pull the feeds in from your favorite websites. My favorite feed aggregator is Google Reader. I’ve found it to be the easiest, and as far as I know it’s the most used aggregator out there.
I’m Obsessed With Subscribing to Feeds
When I was a bookmarker, I had to be selective on what sites I bookmarked. If I wasn’t selective, I would soon have to many sites to keep up with. Since becoming an obsessive RSSer, I no longer have to be selective and can essentially subscribe to feeds like crazy, and I have been
. So much so that I now have 58 feeds that I subscribe to and in a very short amount of time. If I visit a site and enjoy even just one of your articles, I’ll usually subscribe to your feed. With Google Reader right there on my iGoogle homepage every time I open up my web browser, it’s to easy to not subscribe to feeds in this manner.
What’s in My Google Reader Right Now?
Well, I obviously can’t list all of the sites that I subscribe to here, but I’ll give you a few of the feeds I currently subscribe to. Maybe I’ll start a weekly article of nothing but a list of RSS feeds that I subscribe to. I’ll have to think about that.
Anyway, here is a list of five sites with feeds that I read to get you started:
If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to the full RSS feed.

Great article, I am still addicted to bookmarking unfortunately. I do also subscribe to RSS feeds...there’s just way too much information to go through these days

I know what you mean Joe. It seems like I add about at least a couple sites to Google Reader every day or so. Sometimes when everyone decides to write an article at the same time, you’re right, it can be a lot of info to go through. It’s even worse if I decide to take a day or so off from the internet, I come back and have over a hundred articles to sort through.
Thanks for the comments Joe.

You should see my personalized Google home pages.Full of feeds. It’s so true about the bookmark falling behind subscribing to feeds--- at least it’s true for me. I could probably clear everything in my bookmarks and be happy with what’s in my the tool bar folder and my subscriptions.
Anyone know if having too many bookmarks can slow your computer or is that a dumb question?

mccormicky: Yeah, I’m the same way. I have my iGoogle homepage set with all kinds of feeds from different sources. I also have the Google Reader gadget for all of the other feeds I read.
No, having to many bookmarks won’t slow your computer, but it could slow the browser down a bit when you first load it. It wouldn’t even be noticeable though.
Thanks for the comment.
