Fun Post for the Weekend - My Golf Swing
Random Jabber is normally slow on weekends traffic wise, so I figured why not post a fun post for the weekend? I’d hate to waste my best stuff (wait, I have best stuff?) on days when it seems people just are not browsing the site, so here goes.
Over the last couple weeks my golf swing has went south for the winter (a few months early). So, I went for a golf lesson this past Thursday to see if the pro could shed some light on what I was doing wrong. So, here are some videos of my golf swing that we took during the lesson. Maybe a couple readers will find them interesting but they’ll probably bore the majority of you to tears. Sorry.

I play golf every chance. It’s a great sport which teaches patience and focus. Which surely helps in the world of blogging. LOL. Nice swing!

Brian: Yeah I really do enjoy it. So much that I’m also pondering starting a golf blog, but you know how that goes. I’ve got lots of ideas, it’s just finding the time to get them done.
It really is the most difficult game I’ve every played, yet the most addicting game at the same time.
Shaun: Yeah, it’s relaxing when you’re playing well, at least that’s how it is for me. Sometimes I take golf way to seriously and when I’m not playing well it’s hard to relax. I’m working on that though.

Nice swing, kind of makes me want to make a video like this
I recently bought a new 5 wood and the store clocked my swing speed at 91mph, and my driver swing is likely upwards of 100 mph. Last time I was out I picked up the long drive on a short par 5 (420 yards) where I hit it to the 100 yard marker. It was really dry and I put every ounce of my body into it, but it’s one of those shots all four of us will remember. As a round goes on, my shots get progressively less straight, unfortunately.
I could totally start a blog of all the stupid and amazing things that have happened on the course

Chris: Yes, it does teach patience and focus. It’s so hard to focus for the whole round of golf and concentrate on what you’re doing. That’s what separates the pros from everyone else, the mental aspect of it. Golf actually does relate to a lot of other things in life, including blogging. I’m hoping to write a post about it sometime.
Connor: Thanks! You should do a video like it. I’d like to see it.
What 5 wood did you get? I bought Taylor Made V-Steel 3 and 5 woods last year and love them, so I’ll probably keep them for a while, but I am on the market for a new driver. Waiting to see what new line comes out for next year though.

I kind of gave in to my Nike obsession and ended with the Sasquatch 5 wood. I tried everything else, but this club just gives all the confidence in the world when you hold it. It feels awesome.

Connor: Nice! I’ve really thought about going with a Nike driver. I actually like both of the new Sumo drivers but would probably go with the Sumo1 given the choice. Plus, if I’m not mistaken, they just lowered the price of the Sumo1 to 199. Yes, golf is majority mental, so you gotta go with what gives you confidence.

Wow awesome post Deron - and topics which I would love to see covered more on this blog.
I love your swing - nice and rhythmic - and while you did hit that last one a little thin - you’ve got a nice tempo. No wonder you’re basically playing off scratch.
Lol - bit of a coincidence, I bought a Taylor Made V Steel 3 and 5 wood last year too. Last year, I decided to blow money on clubs, and so bought Taylor Made RAC OS irons, and a Taylor Made Burner 860. I just need the matching TM putter now!
Can’t believe that it’s winter now though - how annoying! Dam I hate the UK.

Adnan: Yeah, winter is rapidly approaching here and it’s really depressing. Taylor Made makes some good clubs. The RAC irons are good if I’m thinking of the right set. I’m not as familiar with their iron sets as I am with the woods. I’m a Mizuno iron lover myself.
I’d love to cover some more golf topics with this blog, but I’m afraid I might lose my whole reader base.
I’m pondering starting a golf specific blog, so we’ll see where that goes.
Thanks for stopping by Adnan.

Hey Deron,
I’ve been following your blog for quite some time now. You do a great job. So, it really pleased me to see that you’re a golfer too!
There’s a golf blog here in Vancouver that a friend put up that might be of interest to you:
Keep up the good work and have a great day!

Jeremy: Hey, thanks for commenting. I’ve seen you pop up on MyBlogLog here and there.
Glad you took time to comment.
Yes, I’m a golfer. My blogging career (or lack there of) would be much better if I wasn’t totally addicted to golf.
Guys on Golf looks very neat. I watched the first video and it’s a great idea. I would imagine it’s something that people could really get behind in a local sort of niche. Getting the inside track on a golf course is great for golfers and giving users the inside track through video is a great idea. I would imagine it takes up a lot of time though.

Gosh…
That means totally nothing to me.
For all I know, you could be pulling my leg and trying to have the worst form (or what ever) possible and I would have no clue.
I’ve played one round of 9-hole golf, and been to a driving range once.
And that was because I was at my cousins for a week.
The only thing I know about golf I learned from putt-putt.
But I’m glad you enjoy it!
