Wow! It’s Been a Good Couple of Days

UPDATE: Well, I guess when the luck is going your way, it just goes your way. Sizcons were submitted to DIGG and they’ve received 24 Diggs thus far! Check it out and maybe Digg it some more while you’re at it.
UPDATE: Looks like I’ve also started getting a lot of traffic from Del.icio.us today. Sizcons has been listed in the “hot list” which is on the homepage, all day so far. Don’t forget to bookmark Sizcons on Del.icio.us
Over the last few months, Random Jabber has slowly been receiving more traffic. Up until yesterday Random Jabber was receiving about an average of 70 visitors per day. You can imagine my surprise when I logged in to view my stats last night and notice that at the time of checking, my visitor count was up around 400. I’m pretty excited about it to say the least. So, I move the mouse as fast as I can to view my referrer logs and find out that sizcons (my icon set) was listed as a part of Smashing Magazine’s Best of September article. Pretty cool, eh? Definitely the best exposure thus far for my little blog.
Update on NiceStylesheet
I’ve been working pretty hard lately on getting NiceStylesheet up and running (teaser above). I’m probably still a week or so away from actually launching it, but it’s close, very close. If you remember, back in July I designed a logo for NiceStylesheet and asked for opinions on it (which I appreciate by the way). I came to the conclusion that I didn’t like the pink and fell back to ol’ faithful, blue. Yes, I know, blue is overdone you say. Well, I like blue, sorry!
Anyway, I’ve gathered a lot of thoughts on the site, some of my own, others from the comments left on the logo article and eventually I would love to implement all of them with the site, but starting out, it’s not feasible for me to do so. So, the strategy that I’ve come up with is to simply launch a CSS design gallery (yes, like the million or so others out there) and see where it goes. If it grows, great, I can start doing some more things with it, if it doesn’t, then I can just cut my losses. What I don’t want to do is feel like I’ve got to implement all of the great features I’ve got bouncing around inside my head, right off. If I try to do to much with it initially, I risk the chance of never launching at all.

Brian: Yes, I know how designing a new site can be. As designers I sometimes think we over analyze out designs and it’s really counter productive. I’m coming out of it finally. My main goal is to get sites up and going and then if the needs change, I can change them later. I used to critique every little thing on my designs and I’m actually redoing another site of mine right now that never made it online because I kept not liking the design after I got it done. I’ve been designing this site since last year and it’s time I just do it already and I can change it later. It’s tough though when you want something to be perfect, I know.
I may take you up on your offer. I will keep you in mind.
Yeah, my goal with NiceStylesheet is to just be a very clean, simple design. I think I’ve accomplished that. It has everything you need in a CSS showcase, and nothing you don’t.

Hey Congrat! But remember that thats the Digg effect, it won’t sustain so you need to do something else to get constant traffic.
I am hoping my daily visitors will be up to 1000 per day by next month :D I am very happy about that.

Congrats on the success so far. Consider yourself dugg and stumbled
Looking forward to seeing the new site launched

The Sizcons are very cute, and useful of course.
Also, don’t forget that a lot of traffic comes from del.icio.us also.

Yeah…
Design can be quite difficult…
But I still love it!
Looking forward to NiceStylesheet’s launch! (Think I have said that enough?)
Oh, and I was just on Technorati and looking at your stats.
They’re quite nice!
You now have an authority of 74! You were at about 44 before Sizecons was on Smashing Magazine!
Congrats!

Sean: Yeah, I’m prepared for when it goes down. I know the traffic won’t last, but I need to keep posting good content to try to retain some visitors. I’m all for the traffic and will accept it anyway I can get it, but I still believe that most Social Networking Traffic Sucks
They just don’t stick around it seems.
SarahG: Well thank you very much! I appreciate it.
BTW: I noticed the logo is up, how do you like it?
Jeton: I noticed that earlier. It’s amazing how fast stuff travels online. I created these things a few weeks ago and didn’t get much buzz around them but all of a sudden after the Smashing Magazine article, they are showing up on every social networking site under the sun! Thanks for stopping by.
Brian: Yeah I noticed that also at Technorati. Looks like I’ve cracked the top 100,000 for the first time. Not bad for being around 3,000,000 when I started
. Funny how quickly stats can jump up, but they can also jump right back down just as quick. I really have to take advantage of this time.

Deron - love the logo :D Just got to get the other bits finished before I can set the site officially live! Thanks again for doing it.

Hey Deron,
It’s about time those icons got some exposure! I’ve changed the direction of my personal blog, and began with a launch of 3 WP themes. I don’t know how popular they’ll be, but it’ll help me develop my skills I think, as I seek to launch more in the future.
By the way, I meant to say a few days ago, I think the font you were using before suited the site better than your change.

Susan: Thanks a lot!
Armen: Hey, good to hear from you again buddy.
You’ve got three very nice WP themes there! I’m sure they’ll get exposure in due time. Heck, my icons took almost a month to take off. The viral aspect of the net is a crazy thing.
Ah, you noticed the font change, eh? Thanks for your input. I’ll consider changing it back. You’re the first person with an opinion on it.
BTW: I like the new design/header you’ve incorporated in your blog.

Don’t worry Deron, I’ve been visiting regularly, and eagerly anticipating the CSS gallery.
Thanks for the practical and moral support. Just like you, I keep plugging away at new ideas, and hopefully they are profitable.

Nice little icon set. I’ve got them downloaded and ready for my site redesign. It’s great to see a bloggers hard work pay off. Keep up the good work. I’ll be watching and reading! : )

Chris: I appreciate that. I’m looking forward to seeing them on your site.
I’ve had a few requests for additions to the gallery, so be on the lookout for that in the near future.

It’s always a joy when a bit of unexpected traffic comes your way. Keep producing quality content and more is sure to find you. It takes time, but if you continue to produce consistently and do a bit of work to let others know you exist, they will come…

Financial Hack: Yes, it was a pleasant surprise, that’s for sure. You’re right though about continuing to post quality content to continue receiving more traffic.

VERY NICE!!! Congrats on your success!!!
Hope your blog is around to see many more!
Maybe I’ll do an icon set…
NiceStylesheet:
lol
I’m starting to run into that with my custom blog design. I have so many features I want to implement, that I’m finding it impossible to finish it. So, I’ve narrowed it down to the main features/components that I want - even then, it’s hard…
I just threw out design number six! Argh…
By the time this is over, I’ll have enough ideas to start my own Wordpress Templates web site! lol
But even so - I’m really excited to see where NiceStylesheet goes!
I’m getting excited!
Oh, and you’re cruel to post that teaser…
But, it doesn’t seem to be the same as most of the design gallaries I have seen - so who knows! It could easily take off just as it is!
Good luck!
And again, if you need help - I’ll offer what I can (limited as it is).
